A magnificent setting in the Samsung Hall

The stuff which dances are made of!

Grand gala atmosphere

When Ernst&Young AG presents the annual award of the “Entrepreneur Of The Year”, the most coveted business prize in Switzerland, it requires a very special atmosphere – the setting must conjure up a glittering ballroom atmosphere. This year the Frontwork team prepared the stage for the big show in the Samsung Hall in Zurich on behalf of Merz+Partner Events AG.

Glittering material for thrilling nights

How do you create an exclusive atmosphere in the second largest event centre in the Zurich area? With a glitzy fabric hanging attached all around the hall, of course.

What sounds simple becomes a major operation with an area the size of a respectable indoor swimming pool. The handling demanded spatial awareness, experience and a great deal of finesse from Frontwork project manager, Martin Känzig. He could not use just any material: extremely flame-resistant couture was needed.

Visual appearance with depth

Not all fabric is the same – the customer wanted elegance and simplicity and was fascinated by the material samples in the Frontwork showroom.

The elliptical pattern was provided with a certain depth through shading and perfectly shaped optical curves. The subject was directly digitally printed on cost-efficient panels and connected via overlapping velcro tracks, so that it matched perfectly. A continuous seamless picture was thereby created – fixed to the ceiling with profiles.

Simple elegance via express delivery

The short installation time made the job somewhat nerve-racking – a window of only one day was planned for the installation, and the dismantling took place in the middle of the night immediately after the event. 150 metres of material and around 100 spotlights had to be attached while respecting the weight restriction of the ceiling load capacity.
Screens also had to be embedded in the material. A gold painted wooden frame attached to steel cables was part of the solution.

A smooth transition to thumping beats

What was once the backdrop for entrepreneurs and business networks on one evening became a concert hall for Chris de Burgh the evening after.

It is not surprising that the customer Stefan Merz, of Merz+Partner Events, commissioned a trusted partner for the rapid implementation. Frontwork is familiar with various installation techniques and maintains an overview even with draping fabric curtains.

Stefan Merz is satisfied: “A masterly achievement and a complete success for everyone once again – we are extremely pleased with the work”, says Merz. “We have known Frontwork for many years and have already managed a number of projects together with them. They know how to do it.”
